Grieving: Before God, With Others

Friday, July 13 7–9pm & Saturday, July 14 9am–12pm We all know something of loss and the experience of grief. It's universal—and it's hard. CCEF's Ed Welch and Julie Lowe will help us ask and answer questions such as: Is there really a way forward in grief, before God and with other people? Loss and grief, when left to itself, naturally separates us from others; it isolates us. We minimize our suffering by comparison, or avoid speaking altogether. How do we find words? What does it look like, from the inside, to deal honestly before the Lord with our griefs and suffering? How can we navigate our grief? In Psalm 62:8, David says "pour out your heart before him; God is a refuge for us." We will seek to grow together in our understanding and practice of what it means to find our refuge in God. As we seek to walk alongside others, what does it mean to be a friend to the afflicted and grieving person? The church is often very strong in responding when crisis hits and needs arise. We also want to aim at getting stronger in loving wisely for the long haul—for being long-suffering with those who grieve. What can we do to help fellow-grievers? What should we avoid doing? When grief is malignant, or longterm, when grief becomes your new normal, how can we stay oriented as the people of God to the hope that is ours? What does it look like to be a grieving people, but also people who grieve with hope? Come join us as we dive into grieving before God, with others.
